Abstract

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is an independent global health research center at the University of Washington that provides rigorous and comparable measurement of the world's most important health problems. As the lead organization for the Global Burden of Diseases (GBD), IHME collects every type of social and health related data from around the word to inform the annual updates of GBD.

Each release contains over a billion estimates covering all diseases and injuries for nearly every country over the last two decades. It takes powerful analytics and a collaborative network to conduct this research. It takes equally formidable tools to distribute that information in a compelling, persuasive manner.

In this presentation you will learn about the back-end structures (data, infrastructure, modeling, and analytics) for one of the largest health research projects in the world. You will also learn about the unique methods we use to visualize large, statistical data in a way that is interactive and cogent for policy makers.
