Abstract

Data technologies are rapidly evolving. We hear about the latest trends without necessarily understanding all of the context within which they fit. The fact is that many of us are too busy working with what we have to understand all of the ins-and-outs of the cutting edge.

This talk will provide the knowledge and context to help you create the data architecture you'll need to deal with new requirements such as Big Data, IoT, APIs and the Cloud. If you want to know more about columnar storage and massively parallel processing for relational SQL databases, JSON documents for NoSQL and APIs, or microservices and other cloud-based data technologies, this talk is for you!

Biography

Anthony J. Algmin helps businesses use data to get better at what they do best. He is the Chief Data Officer at Uturn Data Solutions (uturndata.com), a Chicago-based firm helping organizations make the most of data and cloud technologies. Anthony leads development of the Uturn Data Engine, a data processing accelerator combining cloud technology and data management expertise within a highly-adaptable, modular design. The Uturn Data Engine helps businesses of all sizes unlock the value contained in data, from the most simple to highly advanced scenarios.

With many years of experience as a data strategy and management consultant, Anthony leads data-driven transformations of organizations in both public and private sectors. He also served as the first Chief Data Officer at the Chicago Transit Authority, helping provide safe and affordable transportation for millions of Chicagoans.

Anthony speaks internationally on data and leadership topics, and writing a regular column in the Data Administration Newsletter (TDAN.com). He has a BA from Illinois Wesleyan University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
