Abstract

Over the past couple of years there are and in years to come will be many different forms of legislation that will foster actions by data professionals. The focus of this presentation is on the data aspects and how a data professional can stay tuned into this ever-changing landscape.  The material will cover these key concepts:

  • A brief list of recent data /security related legislation and where it is relevant.
  • An additional list of impending and anticipated legislation with information on how to learn more.
  • Internal steps, partnerships and associations you will want to form inside your organization for success.
  • Examples of how companies are handling the data privacy legislative activities.
A disclaimer:  I am a not a lawyer, although I have had a couple of lawyers tell me that I effectively distill this information in a way that helps others work on that which is needed.  My goal is to help you succeed and influence action where you can.  This is a draft of the presentation I plan to give at the virtual EDW – I gratefully appreciate any feedback on the presentation as I plan to alter it a bit.  The talk is estimated to be 45-50 min with follow-up for feedback afterward.
