Featured Speakers & Topics:

Speaker 1

Mike Atkins – The Business Case for Managing Meaning

Organization: Semantic Arts

Michael Atkin is currently the Chief Marketing Officer for Semantic Arts. He has over 40 years of experience as a strategic analyst to financial institutions, publishers and market authorities on the principles, practices and operational realities of data management.   Mike has served as a senior advisor to several regulatory bodies in both the US and Europe.  He was the founder of the Enterprise Data Management Council and a co-founder of the Enterprise Knowledge Graph Foundation.

Topic: The Business Case for Managing Meaning

I have spent over 4 decades as a scribe and analyst for data management – from the foundations of the information industry to the adoption of semantic technology.  I will summarize what I’ve observed, including the mistakes we make and why all roads lead to the adoption of semantic standards and graph capability.

Mike will take us on a journey through the evolution of data management, sharing hard-earned insights, common pitfalls, and the growing necessity of semantic standards and graph technology. With increasing complexity in data landscapes, organizations must rethink how they structure and govern data for long-term success.

Discover practical strategies to simplify and harmonize data across your enterprise

Speaker 2

Piotr Czarnas – A Journey of Scaling

Piotr Czarnas has 25+ years of professional experience, has founded two data management startups, and has managed teams of up to 120 engineers. Recently, he worked as a consultant and a solution architect. His responsibility was leading a team of technical data stewards and building a custom-built data quality platform.

Topic: A journey of scaling a data quality team

Many organizations begin their journey with data quality by implementing basic validation at the ingestion stage. This approach protects data pipelines from crashing due to obviously corrupted data, but the data can still make no sense to the business users. When data teams engage business data owners and designate data stewards, they don't have the necessary technical knowledge about possible data quality issues and how to handle them. The lists of supported data quality checks are vendor-specific, and new team members don't know how to configure these checks correctly.

This session will present an approach that was taken at P&G to build and scale a data quality team to about 50 business and technical data stewards to work on a five-year data quality project. The solution is simple: establish a common data quality process, design a library of reusable data quality checks, and improve quality within each data domain as a separate agile project. I will show you these checks and the fully documented process.

With 25+ years of experience, two founded startups, and teams of up to 120 engineers, Piotr will provide a blueprint for successfully managing data quality in today’s complex data environments.

Piotr will uncover practical strategies for:
Establishing a common data quality process
Designing reusable data quality checks
Running agile projects to improve data quality across domains

Don't miss this opportunity to gain cutting-edge insights from a leader who has spent decades defining the future of data strategy.
